Braids with ribbon - Research

After looking at some different types of braids, I started looking at some braids with ribbons intertwined. I like this look and think it would be good as a contemporary Elizabethan hairstyle as the Elizabethans did often wear ribbons in their hair, especially red ones.

This style is probably my favourite one, I like the design of having a braid on either side of the head and then a ribbon threaded through the middle of it. I could imagine this being an Elizabethan contemporary hairstyle that could potentially be an inspiring design for my final look. Rather than using a white ribbon, I think a red one would look better.

This second design looks very detailed and I think it would represent an Elizabethan hairstyle very well. For wealthy Elizabethan women, they would often either have their hair up in a braid or bun or have their hair down. This design shows both and I could imagine a wealthy woman in the Elizabethan era wearing a design similar to this. Again like the previous design, I think the ribbon would look better in red rather then green as red represents wealth and power more than colours such as green and white.

I really like this design and could potentially use this as inspiration for my final look. Up-do hair styles were popular during the Elizabethan era, especially for the wealthy class women. I like the idea of having a ribbon plaited through the hair and all of the hair tied up rather than having any hair down. I could imagine Queen Elizabeth wearing a hairstyle similar to this and then having her crown on top.

This design is very contemporary as opposed to Elizabethan style. The braid curves around the head starting from the top and going down to the bottom and curving underneath. Throughout the braid, there are small braids threaded through it. I think this would work well for an Elizabethan contemporary hairstyle but with some changes that I would make so that it would my design that   has been influenced by this image.

A waterfall braid looks very modern and contemporary as you wouldn't have seen this hairstyle during the Elizabethan era. This might look good to make into a modern version of a hairstyle that the Elizabethans would have worn. I don't think that the Queen herself would have worn her hair like this as she would usually have her hair tied up or down and curled but it is something that wealthy women or young children would have worn at the time.

I think this hairstyle would suit as an Elizabethan inspired hair style as again I think it is something that either wealthy women or young children would have worn during the era. This design would look good with something else added to it like a bun or another braid underneath rather than having the hair straight down. I like the red ribbon in the hair as red represents power and wealth.

The last style is a ponytail with a ribbon wrapped around it. I like how the pony is a high one on the crown of the head rather than lower down. The ribbon starts at the top of the ponytail and finishes with a bow at the bottom. For an Elizabethan look, I would change the ribbon colour to either red or black to make it look more powerful.
